NIHD’s Favorite Things of 2023.

With 2023 almost to a close, we asked current & past board members of the Nursing Institute of Healthcare Design to reflect on their favorite healthcare products, designs, and trends that will surely kickstart an aspirational New Year.

Paladin Healthcare® Equipment Management Rail System

‘I continue to marvel at its ingenuity, even though railing systems have been around for a while. I seemed to have always worked in old hospitals and the walls were beat-up and damaged from a variety of things being affixed to it. A railing system eliminates that problem forever.’

Remote Cardiovascular Monitoring Devices

‘It gives the family a sense of safety and security knowing that their loved one is being looked after.’

– Pamela Jones

Saven rocker by Carolina, an OFS Company.

One of the best features of this manufacturer is how comprehensive their website is for planning and early design. Although furniture specification isn’t finalized until late in the design, the spacing and layout of furniture, especially in a waiting or lounge space is often planned very early. It’s great to have so many Revit models and planning ideas available, so the design team can quickly help the client understand the overall concept and feel, without wasting billable hours on a rendering.

Their customer service is also excellent, providing visualizations and advice is such a huge help as a designer when preparing for a presentation.

Pure Processing Endoscopy Decontamination Sink

‘It is height adjustable, is a one-piece unit with the sink, wall protector and light hood. It has a peg board back that is on a hinge that you can tilt forward to clean behind it, making this product infection prevention friendly, too.’

DIRTT ® Leaf™ Retractable Modular Wall System

‘This is an amazing option for small spaces, especially those that are tight renovations that are in dire need of flex planning. You can keep the aesthetics and seamlessly integrate Leaf™ with the other modular wall configurations and materials. The best part is that it looks like any other wall when extended.’

noraplan® sentica by nora® rubber flooring

‘In healthcare facilities, easy cleaning and quick repair is paramount. Sentica can be made into tiles and installed without welding, and have a seamless look and performance. This installation method allows for busy hospital corridors to look spotless, and provides flexibility if the facility needs to replace tiles in the future.’

‘Pineapple’s Ryno® range hits that sweet spot of durability and safety without sacrificing timeless style. With a wide array of colors, this line is a refreshing take on pediatric and adult behavioral health furniture that keeps safety at the forefront while still allowing our patients to make the room all their own!’

– Elizabeth Johnson

MazeMap

‘Finding your way through a healthcare facility can be challenging, even if you know where you are going.  Having directions right on your phone is priceless to visitors, vendors, and staff alike.  This product not only provides turn-by-turn directions for navigation but tracks assets throughout the facility!’
