NHDC Virtual Pre-Conference Workshop: Research and Publication: Making it Happen!

2nd Annual International Nursing Conference for Excellence in Healthcare Design has been POSTPONED and has been rescheduled for July 11-13, 2021.

However, the pre-conference workshop titled Research and Publication: Making it Happen!, will be held online on July 11, 2020, ending with a Virtual Meeting on July 31, 2020. The workshop is free to those who would like to learn more about research writing and publishing. Participants will have access to the asynchronous learning modules beginning July 11, and will have the opportunity to participate in a live webinar with the facilitators via Zoom on July 31.

There will be five learning modules participants will have access to:

  • Pre-Research Planning - Define your topic area of interest; Identify where to find background information on your topic; Explain how to validate background information; Understand the difference between a research question and hypothesis
  • Using Research to Advance Healthcare Design - Understand the key terms and concepts in healthcare design research; Identify the steps typically used in a research process; Frame an empirical study using different research approaches and methodologies; Explain how to turn a research question into a research proposal.
  • Writing for PublicationTips and hints from an Editors Perspective - Organize thoughts into a mind map for a publishable manuscript; Identify which content can be presented in graphic form or in Tables and Figures; Explain the importance of the peer review process; Discuss 2 tips that will facilitate acceptance of a manuscript for publication.
  • Hot TopicsA Review from HERD - Identify the levels of Evidence Based Design; Understand the purpose and method for a Systematic Review of the literature; Discuss patient care units and the articles recently published in the HERD Journal; Discuss centralized nurse stations and decentralized nurse stations based on recent articles in the HERD Journal; Understand how design can improve fall prevention based on recent publications in the HERD Journal; Identify additional topics that have been of interest in HERD.
  • Bridging the Gap Between Academia and Industry - Identify characteristics of academic research and industry practices and the intersection between the two; Incorporate key evidence-based research into decision-based design for your next project; Evaluate through post-occupancy, or other evaluation methods, the success or barriers to improving outcomes through design.
After the course opens, participants will have the opportunity to purchase CEUs.
