Membership Committee

The Membership Committee focuses on strategies for retention and recruitment of members. Charged with increasing memberships by 10% annually, the committee reaches out to new members with a structured welcome program. We want to assist new members in meeting their goals for joining NIHD. The Committee will also gather and report on membership feedback to assist in improving NIHD services to our members.

Kay Rademacher, MSA, RN, NEA-BC, EDAC


Kay has more than a decade of experience as an independent clinical consultant in activation and transition planning for healthcare facilities. She has worked with major health systems as project manager to oversee new hospital operational and activation planning. Kay focuses on project activation, transition planning, and workflow improvement. Her attention to detail, structure and project management skills provide guidance and leadership for a successful project.   She is certified in Evidence Based Design and is board certified as Nurse Executive, Advanced by the American Nurses Credential Center.  Kay is a founding member of the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design.

Cindy Barr, RN EDAC

Since 2005, Cindy Barr has helped over 130 health centers translate their program and staffing objectives into functional spaces, utilizing the operational model most effective within their communities. 

During the last five years, a particular focus has been facilitating the change process necessary to integrate conversion to an electronic health record, transform to the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of clinical care delivery, and develop facilities that support team-based, technology-enhanced operations.  Cindy works with health centers remotely and on-site to maximize existing facilities during operational change and system growth; as well as during the capital development process beginning with pre-planning and design, then moving through the transition process to full utilization of new, expanded or renovated facilities. 

A registered nurse (RN) by training, Cindy has prior experience in inpatient and outpatient clinical services, health care administration, capital project management and functional space programming. Cindy holds a BA from Shepherd University and a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Administration from West Virginia University.  She is certified by the Center for Health Design in Evidence Based Design (EDAC).  

Susan W. Bower, MBA, BSN, RN, EDAC
Principal/Healthcare Consulting, NBBJ


As a Principal with NBBJ’s Healthcare Consulting practice, Susan is an expert at helping healthcare organizations operationalize strategic objectives, solving process and quality issues, engaging stakeholders and integrating human experiences into operations planning and design.  Leveraging her past HC experience as a clinician and administrator, Susan leads strategic master planning, functional programming and operational design projects for clients across the nation.

Sandie Colatrella, RN BSN CLNC

Sandie has been Principal and Vice President of Healthcare Planning & Research of Avanti Architecture, a healthcare design firm located in Pittsburgh, PA since August 2006.  She serves as clinical liaison and project coordinator.  Responsibilities include space planning, functional programming and relationship analysis.  Involved in design from conception to implementation, focusing on evidence based design, regulatory compliance and environment of care standards.  Serving as a project manager, responsible for plan reviews with the Department of Health, construction oversight, budgeting and project documentation.  Sandie also is an independent, certified legal nurse consultant specializing in environment of care cases.

Kelly Guzman, MN, RN

Kelly is the COO/Executive Vice President of HTS.  As director of HTS’s Transition Planning Division, Kelly leads  her team in transforming complex projects by breaking them into simpler, manageable pieces.  The division has managed over 30 healthcare projects across North America. HTS services include transition and activation planning, workflow, budget, operations planning, logistics coordination, O&T, and move planning. Kelly’s resume includes administrative positions in acute care, skilled nursing, rehab, emergency medicine, and ambulatory care services. Prior to HTS, Kelly was the Director of Transition Planning for the UCLA Replacement Hospital Projects where she developed and organized a transition planning department. 

Zoe Kron

Zoe Kron is an accomplished business development/client engagement professional with 25+ years of experience.  She plays a key role in the healthcare sector for ex;it, an experience / environmental graphic design firm.  Zoe’s greatest strengths are her creativity, drive, and leadership.  She thrives on continuous improvement, understanding people (personalities, strengths and weakness, compromise, communication) and creative problem solving.  She brings these skills to all areas of her life.

Pamela Redden, MS, BSN, RN, EDAC
Executive Director, Clinical Planning and Development, University of Texas at Austin

Pamela recently joined the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School as the Executive Director, Clinical Planning and Development, She is project leader for a 243,000 square foot, new construction outpatient center, where collaborations will reimagine the entire health care process, focusing on a human-first perspective.

With extensive clinical and administrative healthcare experience, Pam serves as the key liaison between clinical operations and facility design and construction.  She is responsible for operational/ activation planning, design support, staff transitions, occupancy, and post-occupancy settlement of facility projects.  Pam has more than 25 years of project experience, including project leadership at MD Anderson Cancer Center where she served as clinical leader for the planning and activation of over 2 million sf of healthcare facilities, including new outpatient and inpatient facilities, redevelopment of existing clinical space, expansion of imaging and perioperative services, and expansion of the Children’s Cancer Hospital at MD Anderson.  She is a founding member and former Vice President of the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design.
